99 Bottles – Full Sail Brewing Company Session Black
Full Sail Brewing’s black lager is a taste of the Pacific Northwest, a true tree hugger’s lawnmower beer based on a German schwarzbier.
Session Black earned gold in the dark American lager category at this year’s World Beer Cup in Chicago. It also took gold at last year’s Great American Beer Festival in Denver.
If that’s not enough of a pedigree, Draft Magazine rated Session Black a 95 on a scale of 100 in its Jan./Feb. issue, making note of its crisp quality and flavors of cocoa, caramel and cracked pepper.
True to the schwarzbier style, Session Black is lighter in body than a porter with none of the charred taste of some porters and stouts. Full Sail, based in Hood River, Ore., uses water from nearby Mt. Hood and makes use of hops that lend hints of citrus and flowers.
Bottled in 11-ounce stubbies, it’s 5.4 percent alcohol by volume. Pair this with barbecue this summer.
